Texture Baking
I will go over using two uses of texture baking, and some of the problems you may face.

1, 2. next>

Setting up your UVs and Lighting

You can try diffent types of lighing. For characters I like to have an omni or two above the character. This character has a lots of mirrored texture space so I will keep the light centered on him.
Set up a sky light as well. I normaly leave it at 1.0 and turn up the saturation of blue just a bit. The omni I will make a bit pink or brown. and give it about 0.7 for one or 0.35 for two. I have found that i get the best resualts if i have shadows turned off.
If you do want shadows use raytraced. (There is a good chance that map shadows will give you wierd shading.)

This is the texture layout for this character. Some objects have the same uv space. I normaly detatch the duplicates before I go further. (for example each arm of this guy has the same space so I simpy deleted it and will jsut clone the remaining arm when im done.
